This lecture series will chart the changing representations of women from ancient Egypt and assess what we can learn from them.
How women were depicted throughout Pharaonic history reveals much about their roles and perceived qualities. This lecture series will chart their changing representations over time. Using a series of case studies, we will consider what we can learn from these images, while being aware of the limitation of the data. Gender is only one aspect of identity, class, age, and ethnicity also underpin life experiences. How these factors combine with gender will be examined.
