While old traditions are gradually supplanted by new technology in much of the world, some are too precious to lose. Dromedary racing is one of these timeless traditions that new generations seek to preserve. The International Festival of the Sahara will be held on December 19-22, 2019, in Douz, the beating heart of the Tunisian Sahara. The festival, now in its 52nd year, celebrates the rich Arab-Berber heritage of the region. Competitions, shows and workshops introduce visitors to the art of raising and racing dromedaries. The festival also includes exhibitions, music shows, a book fair, and documentary screenings.
