UNAMI Urges Participation in ICPD25 in Nairobi

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq is calling for participation in a Nairobi summit to be held November 12-14 to mark 25 years since the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), which took place in Cairo in 1994. That conference, according to ICPD25 organizers, “articulated a bold new vision putting each and every person’s right to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights at the heart of development and acknowledging that gender equality and women and girls’ empowerment are essential to achieve sustainable development. The Nairobi Summit… is being convened to galvanize partnerships and political and financial commitments to urgently finish the unfinished business of the landmark ICPD Program of Action and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.” The upcoming conference is being convened by the governments of Kenya and Denmark together with UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund.
