About this event
Yavneh, a relatively new archaeological site, dates back to the late Iron and Bronze Ages . It was the seat of Judaism after the destruction of the Temple in 70 CE and a major and prosperous producer of wine in medieval times.
Our guide Julia Newman has developed a tailor-made tour for our group.
- We will learn how Yavneh began the process of developing the basis for Jewish identity and practices of modern Judaism.
- Tour the streets and port of the ancient city, uncovering the layers of history in its monumental buildings and mosaics.
- Take a spin through the modern city, established in 1949 as a transit station for Jews from Arab countries, and see one of the major sites of Rabbinic Judaism.
