Abbas Asks Israel to Stop Inciting

Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud ‘Abbas invited Israeli reporters for a press conference on Tuesday, where he complained at what he described as “day and night incitement against me.”

“I am not the complaining type, but despite our orders to stop incitement from our end, Israeli officials do not cease the incitement for a minute,” said ‘Abbas, according to the Israeli daily Haaretz.

He added that Israel does not give him a chance to act. “It’s only been three months, give us time to act, help us,” he asked the reporters.

‘Abbas also referred to the issue of the property which will be left in the Gaza Strip after the Israeli withdrawal. “The territories which will be evacuated belong to the entire Palestinian people, and that is how we will treat them. Our people do not live in villas, and especially in Gaza there is no need for villas. But a destruction of houses – as happened in Yamit or Quneitra – would not shed positive light on Israel.”

At the end of his meeting with the Israeli journalists, ‘Abbas wished the Jewish people a happy Passover. He said that Passover represents the Jewish festival of freedom, and that he hopes the Palestinian people will soon have their own festival of freedom.
