Israel Radio is reporting that the Shin Bet domestic security agency has arrested the commander of a cell of the Al-Aq’sa Martyrs Brigades terrorist organization.
Salim Buq’ana is accused of organizing shooting attacks and ambushes on Israeli soldiers, having been funded by the Hizbullah terrorist organization.
Al-Aq’sa Martyrs Brigades is associated with the mainstream Fatah faction, which is the ruling party in the Palestinian Authority.
Speaking on America’s National Public Radio, Israeli Foreign Minister Sylvan Shalom revealed that security officials on Monday apprehended a terrorist en route to carrying out an attack. He declined to give further details.
Israel Radio also reported that at least 10 members of Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, have been given extra police protection. Officials are concerned by the fact that the legislators represent a number of parties.
