“Our reporter in Gaza says that according to Islamic Jihad sources ‘Abdalla[h] A-Shami, a prominent leader, was saved after an assassination attempt on his life.” That was how Al-Jazeera television opened its news broadcasts on Monday morning.
When the reporter arrived the scene of the attack, she found that the building hit was located “less than 50 meters from A-Shami’s house.”
A-Shami himself, in an interview to Al-Jazeera, said “It is not unlikely that they tried to attack my house.”
Despite the fact that the bombed house is located close to A-Shami’s home, and the fact that he himself was not sure if he was the target, Al-Jazeera continues to address the attack as if it was a probable assassination attempt.
The Israeli army spokesperson issued a statement claiming that air force planes attacked a Hamas workshop that was used to make Qassam rockets and other explosive devices.
