Bombings kill 12 in Iraq

Iraqi police sources say that 12 people died, and 27 were injured in two separate terror attacks – in Tikrit and Kirkouk – according to a report on the Al-‘Arabiyya TV network.

In Tikrit, a car bomb exploded in front of a police station. The explosion killed 10 and injured 25. Eyewitnesses said a man dressed in military uniform tried to break in to the police station, but failed and exploded at its entrance. A few cars which were parked nearby were burnt following the explosion.

In a separate incident in Kirkouk, two Iraqi police officers died, and two were severely injured. An explosive device was detonated on the road, aimed at an American vehicle, which was driven by Iraqi policemen.

One of the major tasks ahead of the newly elected Iraqi regime will be to stop the almost daily occurrence of terror attacks in Iraq. In the coming weeks the new government will be chosen, following the January 30 parliamentary elections.
