British National Held by Kurds in Iraq

A 21-year-old British national of Muslim origin is being held by Kurdish forces on suspicion that he is fighting against U.S.-led coalition forces in Iraq, reported The Guardian, a British newspaper on Sunday.

Urslaan Khan, an Arabic Studies student at Manchester University, was on a student exchange in Cairo when his family learned from his friend that he had traveled to northern Iraq.

British and Iraqi sources claim that he was arrested about two weeks ago and has been interrogated by pro-coalition Kurdish forces in the town Erbil.

The Guardian report underlined the fact that Khan had participated in demonstrations against the war in Iraq in England.

Khan’s father described him as an “impulsive” adventurer, but denied that he would join an Islamic movement in Iraq, according to the report.
