A Canadian citizen has been detained in Lebanese prison for three weeks without being charged because his passport contained an Israeli stamp, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC).

Bruce Balfour, 52, was jailed on July 10, but he first contacted the Canadian government with a letter on July 22, via Lebanese authorities. He was to take part in a reforestation project, according to Canadian news sources.
Canadian authorities are awaiting an explanation from the Lebanese government, according to Radio-Canada, CBC’s French-language counterpart.
