A car bomb exploded on Wednesday in B’aquba, 40 miles north of Baghdad, killing at least 68 and wounding dozens, reports Al-Jazeera TV.
“The explosion occurred next to a police station, killing 45 civilians. No policemen were killed,” Walid Khalid ‘Abd A-Salam, head of A-Diyala district police, said. Later reports put the number of dead higher.

The bomb exploded at approximately 9 a.m. local time.
B’aquba has experienced many terror attacks over the past year, mainly targeting Iraqi policemen, who some Iraqi fighters regard as collaborators with the U.S. army.
