Egyptian editor: Israel’s annihilation, a matter of time

“The annihilation of Israel is a Quranic prophecy and historically inevitable,” states Muhammad Mourou, chief editor of the journal “Al-Mukhtar Al-Islami,” which is published in Egypt.

Dr. Mourou published an essay on the subject in the London based Al-Arab. The essay, published January 15th, also appeared on the website of the Hamas terror movement.

“This harsh statement is nothing but the truth, and if we genuinely believe in the Quran, we should know the Quranic prophecy specifically mentions the annihilation of Israel in the chapter called “Al-Israa”…therefore, resistance to the occupation must continue by all means, no matter the difficulties, since this is the correct and legitimate way and it falls in line with the Quranic spirit,” he writes.

Mourou continues by stating “the annihilation of Israel is historically inevitable, because Israel’s establishment occurred contrary to the [natural] flow of history and geography.” Mourou claims that Israel is like a foreign body rejected by a living organism. No matter how hard the foreign body tries to grasp the organism, it will be rejected in the course of time.

Resistance to the occupation, Mourou emphasizes, is essential in order that Israel will be annihilated. “The resistance did in fact begin and is going according to plan. Moreover, it produced a wonderful phenomenon – suicide attacks. This is a weapon that cannot be resisted […] the Zionist army, the US army and the Palestinian authority all failed to cope with it. The same applies to international pressure and the continuous war of the media against these attacks, which they define as ‘acts of terror’.”

Mourou claims that the fear these actions place in the hearts of Israelis demonstrates how efficient these acts are in eradicating the Zionist concept. He defines Zionism as “concentrating the Zionist Jews in a safe haven, in their homeland, after they suffered racial persecution in Europe itself.” Yet he points out that these persecutions were not carried out by Arabs or Muslims, nor were they responsible for them. “The West convinced the Jews that Palestine is a safe place, an unpopulated land. However, this is untrue – the Palestinians reside on this land, they will not give it up, and they will not tolerate the idea of an Israeli existence.”

This is not the first time Mourou has expressed such ideas. At a conference held in Cairo in 1998 honoring 50 years since “The Palestinian Nakba” [the catastrophe of Palestine], Mourou stated, “the Arabs are on the verge of a cultural catastrophe and the suicide weapon is our only way to face it.” At the same conference he added, “the only option the Muslim people have, is to rely on true fighters, who constitute the only way to deal with the enemy. The suicide weapon is the only weapon that cannot be devastated by military fortifications.” Mourou ends by stressing “if the Islamic resistance uses this weapon on a monthly basis for ten years, Israel will finally have to give in. The reason for this is that no one can defeat a man who is not afraid of death, no matter how strong. Thus, the sun will shine yet again on Islamic civilization.”

It is worth noting in this context that Dr. Mourou has frequently attacked the Palestinian leadership and its chairman, Yassir Arafat. He called the leaders “an instrument in the hands of the U.S.” and criticized their compliance to hold peace talks with Israel. In an essay published last year in the Egyptian newspaper A-Sha’ab, Mourou also criticized Anwar Sadat [Egyptian president who signed a peace treaty with Israel] and Nagib Mahfu’z [Egyptian author] for supporting peace and recognizing the state of Israel.
