Evangelical delegations celebrate Sukkot, or Feast of Tabernacles, and march in solidarity with Israelis

People from around the world attended the Jerusalem March, a staple in the city since 1955 that takes place during the weeklong Jewish holiday of Sukkot, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles.

Tens of thousands took to the streets in solidarity with Israel, an event which decades ago was organized by the IDF as a kind of military parade. Over the years, more and more citizens began taking part.

For the past 38 years, Evangelical Christians have joined in to show their support for the State of Israel. Delegations from roughly 100 countries waved their national flags and handing out candy to children.

“This year one of the highlights is celebrating Israel’s 70th anniversary,” David Parsons, Media Director at the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem, which helps bring the pilgrims to Israel, told The Media Line.

“I think Christians have a lot of sympathy for Israel when it goes through wars and terror attacks and economic boycotts. They just want to stand with Israel and show their solidarity.”

Numbering nearly 700 million people, Evangelicals are the fastest growing stream of Christians in the world.

Sukkot is one of the most important holidays in the Jewish calendar, commemorating the forty years the Israelites spent wandering in the desert before entering the Promised Land.
