The military wing of the Hamas movement, ‘Az A-Din Al-Qassam, has taken responsibility for setting off a 70 kilogram (154 pound) roadside bomb.
The device exploded next to a “Merkava” tank during IDF activity in Beit Lahiya, according to a statement on the wing’s Internet website.

The Israeli media has not yet reported the explosion, which according to the Hamas statement occurred around 1 o’clock Sunday morning.
Hamas also claimed the tank was completely destroyed and that they witnessed IDF vehicles clearing parts of the tank from the area.
The statement did not specify whether there were casualties.
