Hizbullah raises stakes on Israel’s border

Hizbullah gunmen tried to infiltrate across the Israeli border from Lebanon on Monday, in an attempt to kidnap Israeli soldiers. After shelling army outposts in an apparent diversion tactic, Hizbullah gunmen moved in to abduct soldiers.

Israeli forces killed four terrorists while seven soldiers and four civilians were injured.

Hizbullah shelling of northern Israeli communities continued into the night. A house in the community of Metulah took a direct hit from an anti-tank missile, but no one was injured. Residents of the north spent the night in bomb shelters.

In response to these attacks, the IDF (Israel’s army) and Israeli Air Force hit 13 locations from which Hizbullah’s attacks originated and a structure which serves as a Hizbullah command post.

“IDF forces responded very well to this threat,” said Major General Udi Adam on Monday night. “Hizbullah underestimated our capabilities for a quick and effective response… Hizbullah is attempting to recreate its image as a defender of southern Lebanon. The U.N. has decided that this terror organization must disarm itself, and so Hizbullah is searching constantly for justifications to continue its activities,” added Adam.
