Bodies arestill being recovered in the Bay of Bengal, eight days after a devastating sea storm capsized a large fishing boat, the United News of Bangladesh reports.
The death toll in the bay has risen to more than 100, and local authorities fear for the lives of over 1,500 fishermen who are still missing.
Reports from the nearby city of Bagerhat indicate that pirates were seen looting valuables off the dead fishermen.
Rescue attempts are still ongoing in a joint drive of the navy, the Coast Guard, the Forest Department and the victims’ relatives.
Most of the country is situated on deltas of large rivers flowing from the Himalayas. About a third of the country floods annually during the rainy monsoon season.
