IAEA to discuss Iran’s nuclear plan

Informed European sources say they believe United States’ intelligence will provide strong evidence of Iran’s plans to build an atomic bomb, during a three-day meeting of the governing board of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which opens on Thursday.

Last week AP reported that the IAEA knows Iran obtained detailed instructions on the process of enriching uranium, which can be used to make nuclear arms.

According to the IAEA report, Iran did not give inspectors access to a sensitive site that could be used to store equipment indicating whether the military is running a secret nuclear program.

During the IAEA board meeting on Thursday, it may be decided to refer Tehran to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions for violating an international nuclear arms control treaty.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council ‘Ali Larijani, said on Wednesday that talks, if any, on Iran’s nuclear case “should be based on recognizing Tehran’s right to enrichment and possessing nuclear fuel cycle.”

Larijani told reporters that the talks, being “devoid of any definite frame, objective and time, would be futile and non-constructive.” Larijani said one should wait until resumption of the talks is officially raised so that a clearer stance could be adopted on the issue. He added that the referral of Iran’s case to the U.N. Security Council “does not follow any specific logic,” and predicted that the IAEA board meeting on Thursday would be “soft tuned.”

Larijani also refuted claims that Russia has proposed enrichment of Isfahan’s uranium conversion facility products on Russian territory.
