The Israel Defense Forces are concerned the Palestinian have learned the army’s defense tactics and will increase attempts to infiltrate Israeli communities from Gaza, defense officials told Israel’s Army Radio on Sunday.
Two armed Palestinians climbed over the security fence around Gaza, a seven-meter concrete wall, with a rope on Saturday morning. They were heading for Nativ Ha’asara, an Israeli community near Gaza.
The assailants were disguised as IDF soldiers. There they were spotted by Israeli soldiers and shot dead.
Army officers in Israel’s southern command said the incident shows the Palestinians have information about Israeli defense methods, information that could have come from Iran.
They estimate there will be more such attempts to enter Israeli communities in the near future.
The officers said this could be avoided if a more sophisticated alert system is employed in Gaza, similar to the system used along the security barrier in the West Bank.
