It doesn’t matter who you are. If you are taking the trouble to read this, then you must surely believe in a basic moral code: the preservation of human life.
Any death toll from an act of terrorism is an abomination. But when some 120 worshippers are blown apart, seemingly in the name of religion…
There are no words.
Even if you believe the Shi’ites of Najaf are extremists, out of touch with your world, that could never, ever be a pretext for condoning murder of the most cowardly form.
Nor can there be any excuse for that butchery taking place in the holiest site to the Shia branch of Islam.
Like Jews and Christians of the Middle East, the Muslims have suffered at the hands of terrorists. Surely common sense must be speaking to the ‘average’ member of each faith at a time like this.
Enough is enough.
If you are religious and a monotheist then you know/believe that the Lord giveth and only the Lord has the right to take away.
Killing in the name of religion is a crime, indefensible in the modern world.
Whether it is a Jew killing a Muslim in the Cave of the Patriarchs, a Shi’ite opening fire on Sunnis on the Iranian-Iraqi border, Christians killing Muslim refugees in Sabra and Shatila, or Hindus and Muslims blowing up each other in Kashmir, it is wrong, inexcusable, damnable.
And now those of you who believe in that wondrous code of values that is real freedom, true democracy, now you too must speak up.
