Iran Suspending Uranium Enrichment

Iran says it has bowed to international pressure and is suspending its uranium enrichment program. Before the televised announcement was made, the head of the Iranian nuclear program told reporters that work would be halted at the nuclear plants in the cities of Isfahan and Natanz.

Gholam-Reza Aqazadeh said that he “believes” that his nation has carried out whatever measures it promised in its agreement with France, Germany and England.

Aqazadeh also denied allegations by U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell that Iran is trying to adapt its ballistic missiles to carry nuclear warheads.

When told about Aqazadeh’s remarks, Powell said he sticks by his claim.

Iran concluded a deal with the three European nations to end its efforts to enrich uranium in return for an undisclosed package of incentives.
