Iran Unveils New Weapons as Ahmadi Nejad Heads to NY

The Iranian army has unveiled its latest self-made weapons, including long-range missiles, aircrafts, helicopters and speedboats, during the first day of the Sacred Defense Week.

Among the Iranian-made weapons that were displayed in a military parade in Tehran on Saturday were the Shihab-3 and Fateh-3 missiles, the Iranian official news agency IRNA reported.

Last week an Iranian website affiliated with the regime reported that 600 Shihab-3 missiles were pointed at targets throughout Israel and would be launched if either Iran or Syria were attacked.

The horizontally charged model of the Shihab-3 missile has a "drastically reduced functioning time in comparison with the former type," deputy head of the Armed Forces’ Joint Chiefs of Staff for Logistics and Industrial Research, Brig.-Gen. Muhammad-Reza Naqdi told reporters.

Among other weapons on show were 10 models of unmanned planes, including the Pahbad, with a speed of 430 miles per hour, different models of tanks and personnel carriers, miniature vessels with missile launching capability, speed boats equipped with smart weapons, tactical cars and different kinds of wireless.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadi Nejad left Sunday morning for New York to take part in the 62nd conference of the United Nations’ General Assembly. Ahmadi Nejad is scheduled to address the assembly and hold talks with U.N. Sec.-Gen. Ban Ki-moon, as well as senior officials of several countries.

IRNA also reported that the Iranian president would also deliver a speech at Colombia University and would hold discussions with a number of American Muslim, Jewish and Christian leaders.
