Israel Attacks ‘Terror Hubs’ in Gaza

The Israeli army attacked a building Saturday night that it said was being used by Hamas. The army warned residents to leave the building before the attack.

In Gaza’s Beit Hanoun the army blew up a weapons warehouse belonging to the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), the army said.

Maan News Agency said a civilian was wounded while the army demolished a house belonging to the leader of the Na’sir ‘Salih A-Din Brigades in Gaza’s Beit Lahia. The organization is said to be the military wing of the PRC.

Israel has been operating in Gaza for several weeks in order to stop the firing of Qassam rockets from Gaza onto Israel communities and to secure the release of Cpl. Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier who was kidnapped on June 25 on the Gaza border.

Both Hamas and the PRC were involved in the abduction.

The Israeli Defense Forces have also been operating in the West Bank. Five wanted people were arrested in Qalqilya, and in Nablus forces killed Hani ‘Aweijan, a senior member of the Islamic Jihad.

Palestinian sources say more than 150 Palestinians, including both armed and unarmed civilians have been killed since Israel reentered Gaza.

Lana Shahin, a Gaza-based reporter with the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation said life in Gaza has not been normal since Israel began operating in the area.

There is still a shortage of electricity that is being rationed to the population, Shahin said, after Israel took out six transformers of the Palestine Electric Company on June 28.

Shahin said Gazans are angry not only with Israel but also with the Palestinians who are firing rockets onto Israel.

“Rockets are doing nothing for the Palestinians,” she said. “I prefer not to fire rockets at the Israeli towns because they didn’t do anything and we, the Palestinians, are paying too much for one or two rockets.”
