The Israeli government on Sunday morning approved the release of 90 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.
The measure is a goodwill gesture to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud ‘Abbas for Ramadan, a holy month in the Muslim calendar.
The vote was postponed last week, due to disputes among defense officials over the names on the list.
The prisoners, most of whom belong to Fatah, are expected to be released on Tuesday. They do not include any members of Hamas or Islamic Jihad.
This is the second group of prisoners Israel has released in a bid to bolster ‘Abbas.
The first group included 255 prisoners and was released at the end of July.
All prisoners released are labeled as having no blood on their hands, which means no Israelis were killed by their actions, regardless of the assailants’ intentions.
