Israel responds to Rocket Attacks

One day after the killing of two Israeli citizens in Sderot and one soldier in the Gaza Strip, Israeli troops began their response in Gaza late Monday, June 28.

Three Palestinians were injured and one was killed during the attack which began at midnight, reports Palestinian TV. Israeli helicopters shot three missiles at a 16-story building, aiming at the Al-Jil press office, affiliated with the Hamas terror group.

“This assault against Palestinian press is a desperate attempt of the occupation to silence our press and preventing it from revealing the Israeli crimes against our people,” said Al-Jil’s manager Mu’stafa A-‘Sawwaf.

Also denouncing the Israeli attack, deputy head of the Palestinian Journalists Union Tawfiq Abu Khou’sa said the “Israeli aggression was aiming at a building which is hosting many foreign news agencies.”

Later on, the Israeli army went into Gaza. Israeli security sources said the operation could be a precursor to a prolonged stay, in order to prevent rocket fire on Israeli towns bordering the strip, reports the Israeli daily Haaretz.

The Palestinian killed was, according to Israeli sources, a Hamas operative who tried to set a bomb in the path of the Israeli soldiers.

During the midnight operation Israeli helicopters also fired a missile at a metal workshop used to develop weaponry in A-Nu’sayrat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.
