Israeli Arab Accused of Plotting Terror Attack

Prosecutors issued an indictment at the Tel Aviv District Court on Sunday against an Israeli Arab woman allegedly linked to a Palestinian terror cell.

According to the indictment, 20-year-old Tira resident, Wuroud Qassim, joined a cell of Al-Aq’sa Martyrs Brigades, an armed group affiliated to Fatah.

The Qalqilya resident, who established the cell, planned to attack Israeli soldiers and interrogate Palestinians suspected of collaboration with Israel.

The indictment said Qassim agreed to help transfer weapons from Israel to the West Bank and bring bombs into Israel.

She is being accused of belonging to a terror organization, conspiring to help the enemy and illegally carrying a weapon.

Qassim helped plan a terror attack against a restaurant in Ra’anana, a town north of Tel Aviv, which did not pan out, the indictment said. The bomb was hidden in Ramallah, but was uncovered by Israeli security forces and members of the cell were arrested.

Israel has a population of an estimated 1.2 million Arabs, about one sixth of the general populace.

Israeli Arabs say they are treated as second-class citizens and protest against their classification as a security threat.

Palestinian terror cells frequently try to recruit Israeli Arabs, such as Qassim, to help carry out terror attacks inside Israel.
