Jerusalem: Iraq could still potentially fire missiles at Israel

The risk still exists that Iraq still has the capability of firing missiles at Israel. That is the assessment of Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz.

That means the emergency regulations will remain in place for Israeli citizens.

Experts believe Saddam Hussein still has anywhere from two to 24 Scud missile launchers unaccounted for by the U.N. weapons inspectors.

While the U.S.-led forces have mostly won control of western Iraq, Israeli intelligence sources say there could still be pockets of resistance in the region.

It is from there that Saddam fired more than 40 missiles at Israel during the 1991 Gulf War.

U.S. jets are currently patrolling the skies of western Iraq 24 hours a day.
