Jordan’s King ‘Abdallah II will visit leaders in the Palestinian Authority (P.A.) and in Israel later this week, high ranking sources in the Royal Hashemite Palace have confirmed.
During his visit, ‘Abdallah plans to meet with P.A. Chairman Mahmoud ‘Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
The visit is part of Jordan’s efforts to promote peace in the region and maintain the stability of the peace process, Jordanian sources said.
‘Abdallah met with United States President George W. Bush last week and urged the administration to ensure that Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza will be followed by further pullouts from the West Bank.
Bush requested that ‘Abdallah visit ‘Abbas and Sharon to boost the peace process.
The decision over ‘Abdallah’s visit was made before the situation between Israelis and Palestinians escalated over the weekend. Details of the visit have not yet been finalized.
