Pakistan will not recognize Israel in the foreseeable future, said Pakistan’s Information and Media Development Minister Rashid Ahmed.
Speaking to reporters at the Pakistani national parliament in Karachi, Ahmed said Pakistan’s position on the issue has previously been made clear by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali.
Ahmed called for the creation of a Palestinian state.
Yet at the same time, the country’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Masoud Khan said while there is no official recognition plan right now, should the Palestinians sign an agreement with Israel, Karachi may then review its policy. Khan was quoted by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
Middle Eastern analysts say part of the reason for Pakistan’s failure to recognize Israel is Jerusalem’s close ties to India.
