Morocco announced that it has lost track of 400 Moroccan nationals who trained with Al-Qa’ida in Afghanistan, Chechnya or Bosnia, according to news reports.
The news was allegedly divulged at a meeting between Spanish terror expert Baltasar Garzon and Moroccan officials earlier this month.
Morocco is aware of 600 individuals who attended Al-Qa’ida camps, but only knows the whereabouts of 200 of them, according to reports which quoted an article in the Spanish daily El País. The Media Line was unable to obtain the original article.
Morocco and Spain have been cooperating on apprehending the perpetrators of the March 11 Madrid bombings, some of whom are believed to be Moroccan and may be linked to the May 2003 terror attacks in Casablanca, one of which targeted a Spanish club.
