Mossad Blamed for Damascus Bombing

Israel is being blamed for a mysterious bombing which rocked the Syrian capital Damascus on Monday, injuring two people. The bomb apparently exploded shortly after a Hamas operative left the car with his wife and daughter near his house in the Al-Maza neighborhood, which houses several embassies and homes of diplomats.

According to news reports, the man concerned is 35-year-old Ma’sbah Abu Huweila.

The Syrian interior minister pointed an accusing finger at the Mossad, Israel’s overseas intelligence agency.
Hamas has also blamed Israel for what it says was an attempted assassination.

The bomb was reportedly planted under the driver’s seat in the vehicle, which carried a Syrian license plate.
In September a senior Hamas member ‘Izz A-Din ‘Subhi A-Sheikh Khalil was killed in an explosion in the Zahira suburb south of Damascus.

At the time, Israeli security sources told AP on condition of anonymity that the bombing was Israel’s doing.

As a rule, Israel does not comment on its overseas operations.
