The Suez Canal will remain open, despite increasing calls on Egypt to close the vital waterway.
Arab nations are urging Cairo to close the canal to prevent U.S. and British warships from moving from the Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf.
“Ships crossing the Suez Canal is a right for all countries and is an international commitment that cannot be tampered with,” Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak said during a live TV broadcast.
