P.A.: Reforms Meeting to be Held on Weds

After being postponed on Tuesday, the much-anticipated Palestinian parliamentary meeting will be held on Wednesday to discuss the report drawn up by the Parliamentary reforms committee.

The postponement came after Palestinian Authority (P.A.) Chairman Yassir Arafat refused to accept the demands for the implementation of the reforms.

Nevertheless, the Palestinian daily Al-Ayyam reports that the meeting will take place on Wednesday. During the meeting members of the Parliamentary committee for reforms will present its conclusions after a month-long inquiry.

One of the main demands of the committee will be the “creation of a new government [led by PM Ahmad Qurei’], which will be capable of implementing the reforms Arafat called for,” according to Al-Ayyam.

Al-Ayyam did not mention anything about the dispute between Arafat and the reforms committee.

Other reforms to be discussed are the uprooting of corruption in the P.A., and the clear definition of the roles of each of the three new Palestinian security services.
