Pakistan forms Women Employment Body

The Pakistani government has formed a National Coordination Committee For Women Employment Concerns (NCCWEC), reports the Pakistani Daily Times.

The committee, headed by the Labor and Manpower Secretary, will ensure effective and sustainable implementation of the ‘Women Employment Concerns and Working Conditions Project.’ This is a joint effort of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Ministry of Labor and Manpower.

The project, reports the Daily Times, will take approximately three years and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will be providing the necessary financial support.

With a total budget of Canadian $3m., the Women Employment Concerns and Working Conditions Project is adopting the ILO’s ‘decent work agenda.’

This month also saw the opening of a women division in the recruitment office in Jedda, Saudi Arabia. It was reported that similar women divisions would be set up in several more large cities in the Muslim country.
