The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) approved the new Palestinian government on Tuesday.
The new cabinet, headed by Isma’il Haniyya won the confidence of 71 parliamentarians, while 36 expressed no confidence in the government and two law makers abstained.
The vote took place by a raise of hands, after two days of discussions.
The new lineup was approved by members of Hamas’ Change and Reform list, the Abu ‘Ali Mu’stafa-Popular Front Bloc and independents. It was challenged by members of Fatah and the Third Way.
The new 24-member cabinet is comprised mostly of Hamas members and a few independents.
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud ‘Abbas is expected to swear in the new cabinet later this week.
