A group of Palestinian officers who were scheduled to undergo training in Egypt are being held up in Gaza and not permitted to travel, according to Israel Radio.
The group numbers 45 Palestinian officers who were expected to train in Egypt ahead of Israel’s planned withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
On Sunday it was reported that Israel has not yet decided whether to permit the officers to leave Gaza because it had not yet received a name list.
According to the Palestinian daily Al-Quds, the Palestinians had not yet left Gaza because of “Israeli measures and obstacles” on the Rafah border passage.
Egypt has been playing an important role in mediating between Palestinian factions ahead of the withdrawal from the bordering Gaza. Egyptians are expected to train Palestinian security forces in order to secure the Gaza Strip after the withdrawal and prevent a situation of anarchy.
