Al-Ayyam: Tens of thousands of Palestinians stage a sit-in in the Aqsa Mosque to mark the 26/27th night of Ramadan. According to Sura 97 of the Quran, this was the night the Quran was revealed. The paper described it as an act of resistance against the occupation.
All three Palestinian papers carry a congratulatory advertisment for the winners of the Aqsa Quran Memorizing Contest. It is a great honor in Islam to be called a ‘Hafi’z’, one who has memorized the Quran.
Al-Ayyam: Abu Mazin calls for an end to military actions and calls for return to negotiations with Sharon government, in a speech to Egyptian and Qatari journalists. While supporting the Intifada, he said now is the time to use methods used in the first Intifada.
