The Palestinian Education Ministry devoted the first hour of classes in all schools to the security barrier on Monday.
Immediately afterwards, schools closed and all children were encouraged to join protests against the buffer that were taking place across Palestinian-controlled areas.

The main demonstration was held in Abu Dis.
The village is on the edge of Jerusalem and is seen by Palestinians as a symbol of Israel’s attempt to divide Palestinian populations.
As the buffer passes through Abu Dis it becomes a solid 30-foot-high concrete wall.
Israel says the buffer is essential in its bid to keep suicide bombers out of major Israeli cities.
