A majority of Palestinians support continued attacks on Israelis, according to a poll published this week by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, a Ramallah-based statistical institute.
Fifty-three percent of Palestinians polled support attacks against all Israelis, while 87% approve attacks on Israeli soldiers and 86% on Jewish residents of the West Bank and Gaza, according to the poll.
In regards to Ariel Sharon’s proposed unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, about 75% are in favor of the action, but more than half (58%) prefer that it take place in the context of negotiations between the Israeli and Palestinian leadership.
Fifty-five percent of Palestinians interviewed believe Israel’s security buffer will lead to more violence against Israel.
Researchers interviewed 1,320 Palestinians residing in the West Bank and Gaza face-to-face earlier this month, before the assassination of Hamas leader Ahmad Yasin on March 22. The margin of error is 3%.
