Qadhafi Calls for United States of Africa Army of 2 Million

Libyan President Mu’ammar Al-Qadhafi is calling for the establishment of the United States of Africa, with an army of two million soldiers, the Libyan daily Al-Jamahiriyya reported.

"The African people want unity for Africa, power for Africa, peace for Africa," Al-Qadhafi said Wednesday during a visit to the Ivory Coast.

Al-Qadhafi’s visit to the Ivory Coast concluded his tour of several Western African nations, where he explained his plan to unify Africa under one government. Al-Qadhafi will attend a summit of the African Union in Ghana on July 1.

"We do not want to beg for Europe’s or America’s mercy, we do not want to be slaves again," the Libyan leader said.

So far, Al-Qadhafi’s plan to unite Africa has met with little support from other African nations. Senegal, Sierra Leone, the Ivory Coast and Zimbabwe are the only nations that have expressed their willingness to join him.

"We cannot ignore the reality of our life, which is a result of the division and the lack of African unity. We must take care of this," said Al-Qadhafi.
