The Saudi Arabian security forces announced Monday they had arrested 34 members of Al-Qa’ida, according to a report by the London-based daily Al-Hayyat.
The detainees were of various nationalities and reports indicate that some of them are connected with prisoners who escaped Al-Malaz Prison last month. The arrests were made during a complex operation in Mecca, Riyadh and Jeddah, said an official of the Interior Ministry.
In one of the arrests, the security forces detained four men who were hiding in an apartment in Jeddah. The policemen found weapons, explosives and communication devices inside the apartment.
Saudi Arabia will continue to "give an opportunity to all those who were involved with illegal activities, to extradite themselves and face their charges," said an official from the Interior Ministry, who promised such a move would be taken into consideration when the verdict was being decided.
