Saudi leader condemns diplomats’ murder

Saudi Crown Prince ‘Abdallah Bin ‘Abd Al-‘Aziz, has condemned the murder of the two Algerian diplomats in Iraq, reports the London-based daily A-Sharq Al-Awsat. Bin ‘Abd Al-‘Aziz expressed his condolences to Algerian President ‘Abd Al-‘Aziz Bouteflika.

The two Algerian diplomats were murdered in Iraq by the Al-Qa’ida terror organization, which announced their deaths on Wednesday. U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan said the “brutal and barbaric” murder of the diplomats in Iraq once again “made it all the more urgent for the United Nations to complete a convention against all forms of terrorism by the end of this year.”

“It is a barbaric act to kill innocent civilians, innocent diplomats, who are there to help the Iraqi people and those responsible should be brought to account,” Annan said in an encounter with a journalist at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.

Only a few weeks ago, Egypt’s envoy to Iraq Ihab A-Sharif was kidnapped and murdered in Iraq. Al-Qa’ida’s targets in Iraq include not only Iraqi security forces and politicians and the coalition forces headed by the United States, but also Arab diplomats who represent countries whose regime is considered by Al-Qa’ida as non-religious.
