Sudan warns U.S. threatening world peace

Sudan is calling on the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) of nations to prevent any U.S. attempt to “dominate the world,” the official Malaysian news agency is reporting.

The comment was made by Sudan’s ambassador to Malaysia Mohamed Adam Ismail ahead of next week’s meeting of NAM in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

“The NAM countries must take a more positive stand… we have to safeguard our own interest,” Ismail told the Bernama agency. “We want to live in peaceful co-existence without the imposition of others’ will or political system… NAM countries should ensure that they are not marginalized by any power in world affairs.”

He accused the U.S. of terrorism, referring to its August 1998 strike on a factory in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

NAM comprises 114 states and is perhaps the strongest voting bloc in the United Nations.
