Syria, Iraq call for increased security cooperation

Damascus and Tehran want to expand security cooperation. That was the main result of a meeting in Syria on Monday between Iranian Information Minister Ali Younessi and his host Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk A-Shara.

The Syrian described the meeting as “’fruitful’ and called for further expansion of all-out mutual
Cooperation,” according to Iran’s official news agency IRNA.

“Referring to US and Zionist’s policy of adventurism in the region, he called for the continuation of the Palestinian ‘Intifada’ as well as preventing probable US attack on Iraq as two very important factors to save the region from US adventurism,” IRNA reported. “Lack of trust about US ambitions among the regional countries as well as among the Iraqi people and even the Iraqi opposition groups has so far deferred US attack on Iraq,” IRNA quoted Younessi as saying.
