Syria is continuing to transfer missiles into Lebanon, which are used by the Lebanon-based Hizbullah terrorist organization against Israel, the Head of the Israeli Army’s Military Intelligence Corps Major General Aharon Zevi Farkash told the Israeli government on Sunday.
Hizbullah, he said, is holding thousands of missiles, some of which can reach Tel Aviv in the center of Israel. He said Hizbullah also has missiles that Syria has tested with chemical warheads.
Quoted in the Lebanese daily Al-Mustaqbal, Farkash told the cabinet that Hizbullah chief Hasan Na’srallah has declared that his movement will “assist Palestinian terror,” and that the movement’s actions have placed Syria in a position where they cannot deny ties to terrorism.
Farkash said Hizbullah holds some 13,000 short-range missiles, 500 medium-range missiles and dozens of long-range missiles that can reach up to 215 kilometers.
He added that Egypt thwarted an attempt to smuggle 60 missiles through the Egyptian Rafah into the Palestinian territories, but he said other weapons and explosives were smuggled into the Palestinian Authority. He demanded Egypt proves its intentions and capabilities by stopping the smuggling of arms.
