Turkey Bombings Wound Turks, Tourists

At least 27 people were wounded in a series of four separate bombings in Turkey on Sunday night.

Three of the bombs struck a seaside holiday resort in Marmaris in southwest Turkey shortly after midnight. The largest of the explosions blew up a minibus as it was traveling through the popular resort.

Casualties include at least 10 British tourists.

Another bomb also exploded in a commercial area in Istanbul, wounding six Turks.

No group has taken responsibility for the blasts.

Turkish authorities assume the attacks were the work of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which the United States designates a terrorist organization.

Also, the Iraqi border control arrested 38 people who tried to illegally enter Turkey at the Turkey-Iraq-Syria border intersection on Sunday, the German news agency DPA reported.

The age of the detainees, all of whom reportedly were Kurds, range from 13 to 35.

One of them said 22 other would-be immigrants had already succeeded in crossing the border on Saturday.
