Two Israelis Dead in Weekend Terror

Two Israeli citizens were shot dead on Saturday night near the Kissufim crossing, as they were leaving the Gaza Strip, reports the Israeli daily Haaretz. Five people were injured during the gunfight which followed, including two soldiers. Two terror groups took responsibility for the attack – Al-Aq’sa Martyrs Brigades and Islamic Jihad.

Dov and Rachel Kol, a couple from Jerusalem, left Gush Katif – the Jewish enclave in the Gaza Strip – after a visit to their relatives. The terrorists opened fire from close range on their car. One of the shooters was killed by passersby. The Israeli army unit which was called to the scene killed the second shooter after a short chase. He was carrying a weapon and a hand grenade.

Some three hours before the attack, the Palestinians opened fire on a military post nearby, also using an anti-tank missile.

On Friday, an army unit caught a suicide bomber on his way to carry out a terror attack in Tel Aviv. The terrorist, an 18-year-old from the Gaza Strip, was captured near Sderot, a few miles from the strip. When the force found him, the terrorist tried to detonate the 5-kilogram (11-pound) explosive belt he was carrying, but failed.
