U.N. Endorses Hague Anti-Barrier Decision

With a majority of 150 to 6, and 10 abstentions, the U.N. General Assembly decided on Tuesday to endorse the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) advisory opinion, calling to dismantle Israel’s security barrier.

The decision came after the Palestinians made some minor changes in their proposal, not including Israel’s right to defend itself.

The U.S. voted against the proposal, saying it was “not balanced.”

“It is simply outrageous to respond with such vigor to a measure that saves lives and respond with such casual indifference and apathy to the ongoing campaign of Palestinian terrorism that takes lives. This is not justice but a perversion of justice,” said Israel’s ambassador to the U.N. Dan Gillerman in response to the General Assembly’s decision.

The U.N. resolution is not binding. The U.S. is also expected to use its veto power if the Security Council discusses the issue.
