The United States has warned its citizens of possible terrorist attacks directed at Americans in Israel during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the U.S. State Department told reporters on October 25.
Tough restrictions were already imposed last week on the movements of American diplomats in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. This was done after the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv learned that terrorists might be planning attacks on U.S. interests throughout Israel, the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the coming weeks.
“Instructions provided to American employees of the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv and the American Consulate General in Jerusalem have been clarified to forbid use of all, repeat all, public transportation, including buses and trains and respective stations and terminals,” said the State Department’s notice.
The diplomats were especially warned not to visit the Old City in Jerusalem during the last Friday of Ramadan, for fear of potential riots.
