With 1,963 feet and 158 floors, the Dubai Tower is already the tallest building in the world, and construction is still one year short of completion, Emaar Properties recently announced.
According to Emaar, the tower is 598.5 meters high (1,963 feet), over 295 feet higher that the world’s tallest building, Taiwan’s Taipei 101, and over 130 feet higher than the world’s tallest free-standing structure, Toronto’s CV Tower, news portal Arabian Business reported.
The only structure remaining for the Dubai Tower to overtake is the KVLY/KTHI television mast in Blanchard, North Dakota, which is 2,063 feet high.
In 2006, Emaar began construction on the $20 billion project of the Downtown Dubai development, which comprises the tower, the Dubai Mall, the Business Hub, the Old Town, the Old Town Island, and Dubai Tower Boulevard, the Residences (30,000 housing units), a 30-acre man-made lake, and 6.2 acres of landscaped parks and gardens.
Since the inception of the project, Emaar has not revealed the final height of the tower, but rumors indicate it will be between 3,000 and 3,300 feet.
