Yemen Arrests Foreigners for ‘Terror Activity’

Authorities in Yemen have arrested eight foreigners, accusing them of terror activity, the Yemenite Interior Ministry announced on Sunday.

The eight are citizens of Germany, Australia, Denmark, Britain and Somalia, according to news reports.

They are being accused of belonging to Al-Qa’ida and planning to smuggle weapons from Yemen to Islamists in Somalia.

They were arrested in mid-October and are set to go on trial within the next few days.

Yemenite government sources said they had converted to Islam earlier this year and had come to Yemen to receive religious teachings.

Yemenite officials said last month they caught a group linked to Al-Qa’ida, which was planning attacks on oil and gas facilities.
